Some kind of Hawkmoth [Sphinx moth for you Americans :) ]
Check out the Moths of North America website
  http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/distr/lepid/moths/mothsusa.htm
for details - you'll be able to look at county lists. Choose the Sphingidae for
Illinois and browse through the pictures until you find a match (or close) and
check the text information matches up as well.
