As Don mentioned in prior posts, the sightings do seem to be down this
year.
With the early spring I was expecting early arrivals up this way. Would
like
to report, though, that one was seen in Iron Bridge, Ontario (on the
north
shore of Lake Huron, half way between Sault Ste. Marie & Sudbury) on May
20th. The following weekend I went down to the "patch" but found no
monarchs - or eggs. Today - May 31 - in Elliot Lake (twenty miles north
of
the previously mentioned location) I saw a monarch at noon and then
actually
captured a female laying eggs on a small patch of milkweed 8 miles north
of
town this evening. I'll keep her company for a couple of days - but
she's in
great shape - some fading and scale loss but very strong and healthy.
