Hi Dennis
A very good description of the Humming-bird Hawkmoth (Macroglossum
stellatarum). They seem to be all over the country this year - like
many other summer insects they migrate from continental Europe. Look
out too for Clouded Yellow (Colias croceus) and Paintend Lady (Cynthia
cardui) butterflies.
Best wishes,
Chris R.
