Roundup vs Tilling

First I'd like to thank all responders to my concerns about using Roundup in areas over bulbs and between bricks on walkways. Please understand my priorities also must take into consideration providing safe footing for "special needs" individuals and choosing the _least_ toxic method to solve my removal of crabgrass.

Crabgrass, with it's horizontal root system actually _lifts_ bricks from my walking paths and burrows through tulip and narcissus bulbs. Given time it grows beneath sheets of cardboard and mulching materials, and through driveway materials. Please understand my butterflies come first---that's why I sprayed in November.
I have also utilized layers of newspapers (those without colored inks) Check what kind of ink your newspaper is composed of. Many are now safe.

Due to my northeastern Illinois location the warm days of lepidoptera are soon upon us. If there is a product safer than Roundup let me know. I do not wish my Asclepias collection choked out by aliens. I DO NOT spray my prairie projects. Mother Nature must be allowed to progress more to her liking in those areas.

Keep up the topic of maintenance for it remains worth your time to investigate,...just as does roadside plantings of asclepias and host/nectar plants for lepidoptera.

Thank you again,
Diane
