Help with larvae - south NV

The larvae are most likely the White Lined Sphinx.  They have the color
variations that you describe and can eat many different desert plants,
especially plants in the Onograceae family, the Evening Primroses.  With the
right weather conditions, their larvae are often common in the desert.  I would
guess that they are the larvae you observed near Goodsprings.
