With regard to why Monarch eggs aren't "toxic"

Years ago a paper (probably by Dan Janzen) appeared in American 
Naturalist on why eggs of so many species (not just leps) were edible. 
It had to do with the vulnerability of embryonic development to toxic 
agents.
