My system for recording my observations is a little different, but it seems
to suit me just fine. I got the idea from my father who did this after he
retired a long time ago. I liked the idea and I also adopted it after I
retired a few years ago. The system is based on recycling the junk mail we
receive every day...at least those parts of the letters on which there is no
writing.

I have a paper cutter, you know the type..a large blade attached to a wooden
base. I make strips from the salvageable parts of the letters, about 2" X
4", and keep the blank strips in a little box by the telephone. On my way
out I put a few blank pieces in my pocket.

The advantage of this system is that the raw material keeps getting
delivered to me gratis. The little cut strips are easy to carry and light.
They are very portable. And you don't have to worry about the elements
ruining them, even if you got your pants wet walking in a marsh,or
something.

The disadvantage is that I don't always put them away when I get home. They
get mixed up with things like grocery lists. And I suppose they could also
wind up in the washing machine.

One other thing, I write my observations when I feel like it. At this point
in time, there is very little need for regimentation of any sort.

I know this sounds too simple for most of you - too low-tech - but it works
for me. And that's the important thing.

If you respond to my nonsense, don't expect a reply from me in the next 2
weeks. I'm outta here!

On a light leps-l night,
