Out of general curiosity (and genuine ignorance) could anyone could tell

why NABA was not named NABWA (North American Butterfly Watchers
Association) to reflect the exclusion of collecting as an activity in
this
organization?
John, it may be because, w/o collecting, they really don't know what they
are seeing. Many times I am holding a moth in my hand and don't know what it
is. And at 50 or so feet my 70+ year-old-eyes have a problem distinguishing
a painted lady from falling leaf.
While I agree the organization is misnamed, perhaps it should be
NA(ITIWA)BWA, for North American (I Think It Was A) Butterfly Watchers
Association.

P.S.
The NABA website is unambiguous about collecting. I collect and choose not
to be a member of NABA.
