The Connecticut Butterfly Association takes a more moderate and
tolerant position: http://mgfx.com/Butterfly/Society/Cba/news.htm

"The CBA will not promote or discourage collecting by any
of its members. If the CBA were to take a hard and fast stand
on collecting we would be alienating a portion of our membership,
and thus hamper our mission "to promote the awareness and
appreciation of butterflies and moths, locate, inventory, and
encourage preservation of butterfly and moth habitat..."
(CBA Constitution, Article II). We hope instead, that all CBA
members can benefit from the range of expertise, diverse
viewpoints, and range of interests found within the organization.
We ask that CBA members that choose to collect will do so in a
responsible way - respect property owners' wishes, take only
as many specimens as are needed for their collections, and share
their findings with the CBA and CBAP databases."
