butterfly valley

Has anyone heard about a valley in the hills of the Island of Rhodes where
the hiker can clap his hands and hundreds/thousands of butterflies rise out
of the grass. My informant is not a lepidopterist.
This is the second time I have heard this tall tale, and the first
eyewitness account. They sound like satyrids or geometrids. Is there
anything in the modern or ancient literature about this?
