Hamadryas

I have observed the "cracking" in various Hamadryas species
in Costa Rica and Tamaulipas and Veracruz, Mexico.  Recall on two
particular occasions that it seemed like it could have been related to
territorial protection, as chasing invading butterflies away from
approaching or landing on "their tree."
