Code Question

The present International Code of Zoological Nomenclature replaced the
previous one which replaced the one before that etc and the first code
replaced the original 'Regles'. I have heard differing thoughts on what this
means for nomenclatural acts done in the past which may not meet the
'current' rules. So for example, if a neotype was designated in 1943 and the
designation does not meet the requirements of the present fourth edition of
the code; does that mean the neotype designation is not valid ? or does it
remain valid if it was compliant with whatever code version was in force in
1943 ? Any and all thoughts welcome, reasons for the thoughts not essential
but certainly welcome. Thank you. PS. If anyone has a copy of the code in
force in 1943, could you quote the provisions/requirements for neotype
designation that it contains ?
