 By Todd Zwillich

 WASHINGTON (Reuters Health) - <snips>:

Modified soybeans, the most common transgenic crop currently used
in the US, have cut the use of herbicides by 12% since 1995,
said Dr. Roger N. Beachy, president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science
Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

At the same time, corn engineered to produce a natural pesticide
known as BT has cut use of insecticides by up to 3% in fields
where it is used, he said at a forum on genomics held at the
National Academy of Sciences (news - web sites) (NAS) annual
 meeting.
