Mike:

Here's the disclaimer:

payment. This

18 U.S.C.
§1734 solely to indicate this fact.

This article outlines the beginning of the multi-country research on Bt
Corn. I have included only the first paragraph:

***Bt Corn and the Monarch Butterfly: Research Update
Originally published in ""Genetically Modified Organisms in
Agriculture-Economics and Politics,"" edited by Gerald C. Nelson,
electronically posted with permission from Academic Press, London.
Richard L. Hellmich
USDA--ARS, Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit, and Department of
Entomology Iowa State University
Blair D. Siegfried
Department of Entomology, Unviversity of Nebraska-Lincoln
A request for proposals based on these priorities was announced April 7,
2000. USDA--ARS and *industry*, through an unrestricted gift from the
Agricultural Biotechnology Stewardship Technical Committee, each made
$100,000 available for research projects outlined by the consortium. ***
The *industry* consortium is Monsanto, Novartis and Seneca.

I'll post the "Bush nominated ex-Monsanto employees to the FDA" story later.
This subject is near and dear to my heart. Bt corn is having a devastating
effect on Monarchs, Black Swallowtail, Giant and Viceroy. I live next door
to it.

Jackie Lucier

P.S.: Mike, it's nice to know somebody beside me actually read what little
they chose to 'feed' us. Have you tried to get copies of the research?
