MS Graduate Assistantship - Insect Conservation

An assistantship is available for a 3-year study to evaluate techniques for 
maintaining firebreaks in a way that is beneficial to rare insects 
(primarily Lepidopterans) of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.  Techniques 
to be examined include prescribed fire, mowing, grazing, and 
harrowing.  Study plots will be treated with one of these 4 methods and 
then evaluated with respect to the habitat produced for rare 
insects.  Results from the study will be relevant to the conservation of 
insects associated with firebreaks and right-of-ways in the 
Northeast.  Starting Date: May 15, 2002, negotiable;  Review of 
applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate
