Poanese aaroni (Aaron's Skipper) was flying in fair numbers (more than a
dozen seen in 5 min) at Goshen, New Jersey (Cape May County) yesterday
(May 30,2002). The New Jersey Audubon Society operates an excellent
nature center at Goshen with a substantial butterfly garden. Aaron's
were nectaring at several species.

This is a species that frequents salt marshes where its presumed host is
Distichlis spicata (has that been documented elsewhere?). But actually
it is more frequently encountered in meadows and gardens, up to a mile
or more inland from salt marsh. The first Panoquina panoquin (Salt
Marsh Skipper) was also seen in the garden yesterday (May 30).
