Folks,

Today I met new friends to look for female Bronze Coppers and we found 2 of
them no problem. It was noon and my friends had to go and I had an extra
half hour to look for more butterflies. I stopped and looked at a field of
ironweed just east of New Richmond, Ohio. I didn't find much so I was
taking photos of Orange Sulphur, Colias eurytheme and Clouded Sulphur,
Colias philodice
when I noticed a slightly larger one on a flower in front of me. I started
taking photos and once I'd taken 3 photos before I realized this was a
Southern Dogface, Colias cesonia! I took a couple more photos and it flew
up onto highway 52 and disappeared. I take it this a fairly rare sighting
and a life butterfly for me. Id looked several times in Fla. for these guys
and never expected to find and photograph one in Ohio.

I have placed the photos on a page at my Butterflies of North Carolina web
site at http://www.rlephoto.com/butterflies/dogface_southern01.html
