Butterfly tracking

Folks,
Several years ago, I heard a paper by a biologist who had tracked Parnassians
using a resonance technology similar to that used by store anti-theft systems.
I can't find the original reference.  Can anyone point me to a publication?
Does anyone know of workers who have used the technology since then?
