Three Summer Internships Available

I am seeking applications for three summer positions. Taxonomic
expertise in Lepidoptera is preferred, but applicants with any
entomology training, especially in systematics, will be considered.
The positions open about 15 May and carry through the month of August.

1) I am looking for someone to run my caterpillar rearing facility.
The focus this coming summer will be on collecting, rearing,
photographing, and preserving noctuoids. There will be opportunities
for 1-3 weeks of travel. Stipend negotiable $4,500. Storrs is
rural--a vehicle is desirable. The goal of the project will be
to contribute collections and data to a companion volume to my US
Forest Service guide "Geometroids of Eastern and Appalachian Forests."

2) A second position is available to conduct a moth survey in the
southern part of the state. The intern will service light traps,
sort catches, pin adults, and identify the moths. Lodging will be
provided. Stipend approximately $4,500. A vehicle is highly desirable,
additional support for travel and equipment may be available.

3) A third internship will focus on the inventory of insects in early
successional habitats, particularly sandplain grasslands and coastal
strand communities. Taxonomic interest and/or expertise in apoids,
sand wasps, or other Hymenoptera will be viewed as especially favorable.
A vehicle is necessary. Stipend approximately $4,500, plus some money
for travel and equipment.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, resume, and
the contact information for three referees/references to David L.
Wagner at david.wagner at uconn.edu by 10 March, 2004. I will be out
of the country until 4 March, 2004, but will be in occasional email
contact at alas at sloth.ots.ca.cr (messages should be copied to my
University of Connecticut account as well).
