Fwd: California Sees worst Butterfly Season in 35 years

Some bad things have been happening to butterfly & bird
habitats in California, but none of the big conservation
societies (like Xerces, NABA or Audubon) has displayed
any interest in them so you may not have heard about 
them.  So I will tell you.

A State law was passed last year, supported
by both liberal democrats and conservative republicans
that requires home and building owners living in rural or
semi-rural areas to clear a 100 foot wide swath of
vegetation around structures.

The previous standard was 30 feet.

As a result, the landscape of rural California this
spring has been looking more and more like this:
