MCDOUGAL CENTER EVENTS THIS WEEK
* ACCEPTING MCDOUGAL FELLOW APPLICATIONS / (07-17-2006 5:00 p.m.)/
The McDougal Center is now accepting applications for two McDougal
Fellows, one in Academic Writing, and one in Careers and Professional
Development. * Academic Writing Program Fellow: Plan and present
writing programs, such as dissertation topic selection panels,
dissertation writing workshops, grant-writing and poster presentation
workshops; promote peer editing groups; manage peer writing review
service. * Careers and Professional Development: Plan and deliver
programs that allow graduate students to explore new career options,
develop new skills, and build professional networks. Write weekly
email Career news. Only full-time, registered students in the
Graduate School of Arts and Sciences are eligible for these
positions. Fellows work 5-7 hours a week with a team partner, with
other McDougal Fellows and with advisors, and are paid a $4,000
honorarium for the academic year. Fellows must be available for
training starting August 24, 2006. For further details and to apply,

* MCDOUGAL SUMMER BOOK CLUB / (07-19-2006 8:00 p.m.)/
This month, we will be discussing "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa
Lahiri in the HGS Common Room at 8:00 p.m. Refreshments and snacks

* SUMMER CABARET AT YALE / (07-19-2006 8:00 p.m. )/
Zero Hour Written by Tea Alagic and Jennifer Tuckett Directed by Tea
Alagic. A compelling look back at the Bosnian conflict through the
eyes of the women who experienced it. Zero Hour is a powerful new
play where women look back and explore their nightmarish ordeals
during the Bosnian conflict, highlighting the importance of memory,
awareness and action in the face of apathy. Cost $13. Show starts at
8 p.m.; doors open for dinner at 6:30 p.m. For more information:

* QUASSY THEME PARK / (07-21-2006 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.)/
Note date change! Come enjoy a fun filled day at Lake Quassy, a ride
and water park in the heart of Connecticut, only 40 minutes from New
Haven. Free lunch is included for the price of the ticket. $14 for
students without children, $12 for parents and children.
Transportation is not provided. For tickets, call the McDougal

* NYC DARWIN EXHIBIT / (07-23-2006 1:30 p.m.)/
The McDougal center is organizing a group trip to NYC to see the
Darwin exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History. Get your
tickets at 123 HGS for $14 for students then either meet us there or
meet at the New Haven - Union Station to ride the 9:32 a.m. train
down with a group. Train tickets are on your own, but we recommend
you get them ahead of time (they are really expensive if you buy on

Come to the Lower New Haven Green EVERY WEDNESDAY (from July 12th to
Aug. 30th) and bring a lunch from a downtown restaurant. Enjoy live
music while you eat at one of our shaded tables donated by our
friends at IKEA. There is also fresh produce for sale at the Farmers
Market (which runs from 1pm to 6pm).
* PICNIC IN THE PARK / (07-21-2006 7:00 p.m.)/
Saddle up for an action packed ride to the wild, wild west with the
New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Come hear Broadway Goes West with
Associate Conductor Jerry Steichen and special guests Rob Richardson
and Annie Kozuch. For prizes, children?s activities and great music
head to Edgerton Park. Tickets available at the Shubert Theater Box

You are invited to join OISS for a potluck picnic dinner before
enjoying the film under the stars. Picnic will begin at 7pm. Bring
some food to share, and something to sit on. Drinks will be provided.
Look for the blue & white balloons. Movie begins at 8pm. Come to the
New Haven Green and enjoy the recently released Disney movie, Robots.

* SEARCHING FOR SHAKESPEARE / (07-22-2006 12:00 p.m.)/
With all we know about William Shakespeare, do we know what the Bard
looked like? Meet at the information desk of the Yale Center for
British Art (1080 Chapel St.) at Noon on Saturday for a tour of the
nearly 150 works and join the Search for Shakespeare. For more

DescriptionSummer in the Broadway District means much more than
shopping: Every Sat from July 15 to August 19, the Broadway District
will be the place to be for your pre-concert celebrations complete
with sidewalk fairs and live music (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with live music
at 3 p.m.) Head there for delicious treats and great shopping before
you head down Elm Street to the Concerts on the Green (6 p.m.
pre-concert show & 8 p.m. headliners).
