MCDOUGAL CENTER EVENTS THIS WEEK

  * YOGA / (10-01-2007 8:15 PM)/
Interested in Yoga?  Starting October 1st the McDougal Center will
have its very own Yoga series.  There will be two nights of classes
each week for four weeks, you can only come to one a week but don't
worry they will be equally as excellent.  Classes are either 7-8:15
pm Monday 10/1, 10/8, 10/15 and 10/22 or 7-8:15 pm Tuesday 10/2,10/9,
10/16, and 10/23. All of this for just $15.  Sign up in HGS Rm 123
starting this Wednesday.  Please bring a check or cash. Signup is
open until the classes fill up.  There are still some spots open, so
hurry and purchase your tickets now.

  * MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL @ GPSCY / (10-01-2007 8:30 PM)/
Join us for some NFL action as the Patriots take on the Bengals!! 
All this with free food, some nice drink specials from GPSCY and
HDTV!  There is no better way to watch football, so you might as well
just be there to see it.

  * TALENT TUESDAY / (10-02-2007 7:30 - 9:00 PM)/
This week's Talent Tuesday concert features a top-notch Tango Quintet
from the School of Music playing works of Astor Piazzolla, the Apollo
Jazz Group, and Singer/Guitarist Jessica Wrobleski.  7:30 in the
McDougal Center Common Room (HGS).  Blue Dog Cafe will be open for
refreshments.

pm Need help organizing your references and creating bibliographies?
The popular EndNote bibliography manager is now available in a Web
version that is available for free to Yale affiliates. EndNote Web
allows you to store and manage references, import citations from
online databases and create a bibliography instantly as you write.

  * FFF:  OKTOBERFEST! / (10-05-2007 5:00 - 7:00 PM)/
Located at HGS, 320 York St.  This month's Theme: Oktoberfest! The
Graduate Student's monthly Happy Hour, this month featuring German
food, drink & music. Free soft drinks, beer from New England Brewery,
wine, hard apple cider and themed happy hour snacks. Held on the first
Friday of every month. Meet other grad/prof students from around
campus; grad students, spouses & partners & families welcome. 21 and
over with Yale ID and proof of age to drink.

Come join us at HGS 119 for a buffet of delicious and nutritious
children?s snacks, and learn which healthy snacks your kids like at
this family event. We will serve several fun and healthy children's
snacks and have nutritional information & simple recipes on hand. We
will also have fun activities for the kids and a variety of

  * PATRICIA AND GINA'S PUBLIC SERVICE TIP OF THE WEEK
Even if you missed the public service with immigrants event on
Saturday, there are still plenty of ways to get involved with the
immigrant and refugee communities in New Haven. You may want to
volunteer with one of these groups: Integrated Refugee and Immigrant
Services (IRIS: www.irisct.org) or JUNTA for Progressive Action
(www.juntainc.org). JUNTA works with the Spanish speaking community
in Fair Haven, and from the Green you can get there by taking the D
bus down Grand Ave. IRIS is conveniently located in the East Rock
area, and they particularly need Arabic speaking volunteers.

  * LAURA AND LIZ'S HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK
Oral sex is a fun alternative but still requires protection!  You can
use dental dams (available in a variety of flavors) to prevent
transmission of STI?s through oral sex.  Dental dams are a barrier
method that prevents fluid transfer.  You can get them for free at
Health Services!  Be safe and happy!

  * COURTNEY'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Come out and take part in the Ahmapoet Literacy Project and Open Mic.
 This open mic venue at the Centro San Jose, 290 Grand Avenue,
welcomes both experienced and unexperienced poets and is open to the
public and showcases great local talent.

  * MATT'S SOCIAL TIP OF THE WEEK
Ultraradio.com, CT's #1 Internet Radio Station, holds great events
nearly every night of the week.  From Hard Drive Live on Wednesday
Nights, to their Tuesday night open Mic Night, Ultraradio has fun
promo nights where you can clear your mind of your upcoming comitee

  * TOM'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Firehouse 12 (45 Crown St.) hosts world-class jazz concerts every
Friday night!  This week, acclaimed guitarist/composer Micheal
Musillami performs with his trio and special guest Mark Feldman on
guitar. 

  * LISA'S SPORTS TIP OF THE WEEK
Football tailgating tip of the week: FREE tailgate for 21+ at all
home Yale football games. There's a FREE tailgate Tent in Lot D, in
the area next to the horse stables across from the Yale Bowl. The
Free tailgate is sponsored by WPLR radio, Hummel hotdogs & a Beer
distributor, so there's free music, food & beer. You must be 21+ with
Picture ID to enter, but it is free before all home games.Note- The
fancy catered tailgate party tents are near the entrance to the Bowl,
but you have to be a member of the hosting law firm or bank or class
of xx or dartmouth alumni group, etc, to get into those, so please
don't try crashing them. Go to the free WPLR Tent in the main
tailgate Lot D, and enjoy yourself.

  * JAMIE'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Next week, from October 9-14, the Schubert Theater will be featuring
the musical GYPSY, which was hailed as "the greatest of all American
Musicals" by the NY Times.  This show tells the story of the famous
burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee and her domineering mother, and it
includes such memorable songs as "Some People," "Let Me Entertain
You," "You Gotta Get a Gimmick," and "Rose's Turn." Don't miss it!

  * FILM SCREENING OF \"FLOATING LAMP OF THE SHADOW VALLEY\" /

screening of a film made by Amit Wanchoo, a Yale World Fellow from
India, on his Kashmiri homeland.  For further details, contact

  * ITALIAN FESTIVAL BOOKS IN CONTEXT / (10-03-2007 4:30 PM)/
Yale graduate Sarah Knight gives a lecture entitled "Gloriose pompe e
fiery ludi: Italian Festival Books in Context" to kick off the
Beinecke's exhibition of early modern Italian Festival Books.  Free
at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, but seating is
limited.

There are just a few discounted tickets left for Grad Night's Jazz
Night with Joshua Redman, October 12th at 8PM in Sprague Hall.  We
will have a pre-concert Wine/Cheese reception in the HGS common room
at 7PM (21+ to drink, ID required).  $12 grad-night tickets (20% off
regular student price) are available exclusively at the McDougal
Center office in HGS. When our discounted tickets sell out, we will
have a wait list as more grad-night tickets will likely be released
the week of the show.  Alternately, you can visit the Sprague Hall
Box office (corner of College and Wall, or call 203-432-4158) to
reserve full-price student tickets for $15.

rather than as faculty? Come listen to four panelists who have chosen
a career in university administration discuss their experiences and

  * CREATING BIBLIOGRAPHIES WITH ENDNOTE / (10-19-2007 3:00 - 4:30
PM)/
Sessions to be held in SML Electronic Classroom, Room 609 (Bring your
Yale ID) Friday, October 19, 3:00-4:30 pm The EndNote software program
helps you to organize your research and easily create bibliographies
while writing a paper. Using EndNote you can save references from
research databases, add notes, insert citations into a document, and
format a bibliography for that document. Register at the Sterling

  * YOGA AND PRANAYAMA PRACTICE GROUP FALL SCHEDULE
Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:15-8:15am, BASS 405 Conference Room You are
welcome to join YPPG whether you are new to yoga or have prior
practice. Both men and women of any age group are welcome.  If you
are interested in joining YPPG, please contact Aruna by email (
aruna.pawashe at yale.edu). This is a voluntary free group activity; we
are not professionals. This schedule will run until mid-December. 
Yoga is not about competition and perfectionism. It is not an aerobic
exercise but instead focuses on body stretching, muscle-strengthening
asanas, breathing exercises and meditation. Please wear loose clothes
and bring a yoga mat (if you have one) or large beach towel. Note that
presently we have only a moderate level class, but Aruna is willing to
spend a few extra minutes after class with interested beginners.

  * SHOWCASE CINEMAS MOVIE DISCOUNT TICKETS
The McDougal Center is now proud to start offering movie theater
discount tickets. The first up is the Showcase Cinemas, where we have
$7.00 discount tickets (regular about $10) good for all times (with
some theater exceptions). Coming soon, we should be providing
discount tickets for the Criterion Cinema. All tickets can be
purchased at the McDougal Center Box Office.
