MCDOUGAL CENTER EVENTS THIS WEEK
* SUPER TUESDAY / (02-05-2008 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM)/
Vote in the Super Tuesday Presidential Primary. For info on polling
places and voting in New Haven, see
http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/RegistrarofVoters/index.asp or call
946-8035. HHH and central campus are in Ward 1, voting at the Main
Library on Elm Street. HGS and neighboring parts of campus incl.
parts of Science Hill are in Ward 22, voting at Wexler-Grant School,
55 Foote Street. Yale College Democrats will be providing rides all
day to the Ward 22 polling place. Cars will run from York Street
outside of Pierson and Davenport Colleges and from outside of Swing
Space on Tower Parkway, so look for the signs.

graduate and professional students at this open mic night. We're
looking for talented people from all departments to read essays or
poetry, sing, play music, act, be funny, dance, perform acrobatics. .

* SUPER TUESDAY ELECTION RESULTS / (02-05-2008 7:30 PM)/
Twenty four states -- including Connecticut -- will hold presidential
primaries on Tuesday, February 5, known as "Super Tuesday". Stop by
HGS 119/the McDougal Center to watch the results come in, debate with
fellow students, and enjoy free snacks and soft drinks. A discussion
of the US electoral system, especially for international students,
will begin at 7:30 pm. Then from 8 - 11 pm we'll watch the election
returns on our projection TVs while enjoying free pizza, beer, soft
drinks, and snacks. Brought to you by McDougal Student Life.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with an Asian meal at HGS Dining Hall.

Come experience a fantastic chocolate filled experience with fun
give-aways and competitive games of Sex Jeopardy. Test your trivia
knowledge and sexpertise with other grad students and see if you can

* PEABODY MUSEUM FAMILY VOUCHERS / ( )/
For this week, we are offering Peabody Museum vouchers for children.
Vouchers ($5 value) for up to three children can be picked up at the
McDougal Box Office at the McDougal Center between 9am and 5pm. You
may want to take advantage of the upcoming vacation ?Dino Days? at
the museum. Vouchers will be given out on a first come, first serve
basis.
MCDOUGAL FELLOWS' TIPS OF THE WEEK
* COURTNEY'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
January 30 marked the 359th anniversary of the execution of England's
King Charles I. Following the restoration of his son as King Charles
II in 1660, several of the so-called Regicides implicated in the
signing of the late king's death warrant fled to America to avoid the
new king's wrath. Edward Whalley, William Goffe, and John Dixwell all
came to New Haven where they continued to be persued by the English
government and were hidden by symphathetic ministers and other
officials (one notable site where Goffe and Whalley were hidden is
Judges Cave in West Rock). Goffe and Whalley later left but Dixwell
remained and a monument to "J.D." (Dixwell always kept his identity a
secret as the agents of Charles II continued to pursue him) can still
be seen in a small fenced area behind the Center Church on the Green.
Go and check out this unique bit of New Haven history!
* MARKUS AND MEISHA'S INTERNATIONAL TIP OF THE WEEK
In celebration of International Women's Day, the International Cafe
will be hosting an evening reception on March 8 (7-9pm), which will
include a mix of performances. If you or your group is interested in
participating in this event (ie performing, be it spoken word,
instrumental music, singing, dancing, poetry, etc), or if you wish to
have more information, please contact meisha.bynoe at yale.edu.
* SUSAN'S KIDS AND FAMILY TIP OF THE WEEK
At the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Sunday February 10th at 1:00 pm,
children age 5-12 can spend a day with the river otters (my favorite
animal) that will include making healthy treats and toys to challenge

What is Hepatitis B? How is it spread? Who is at risk? What can be

for a presentation by Dr. Jim Perlotto, MD, Chief of YUHS Student
Medicine, and Dr. Joseph Lim, MD, Yale School of Medicine. Voluntary
on-site screening for students will take place after the

* OPENING RECEPTION OF THE STERLING LIBRARY ART DISPLAY /

Attend the opening reception of the Sterling Library art display on
Thursday, February 7, 4:45 to 5:45 pm in the Memorabilia Room,
Sterling Memorial Library, 128 Wall Street. Art lovers don't often
think of the library or archive as a place to study original works of
art, but this exhibition showcases pencil sketches, watercolors,
cartoons, caricatures, and ephemera from the records of the
University or from the collections of personal or family papers in
Manuscripts and Archives. Filed away with correspondence and
diaries, or miraculously surviving in attic trunks or basement
storerooms, the items on display reflect the daily lives of families,
individuals, or institutions and span three centuries. Included are
works of art by luminaries in the fields of medicine, government,
science, literature, or education. Early works by a number of
well-known artists will also be on display.

This is the monthly luncheon meeting for Grad/Prof Parents & their
spouses. This month?s featured speakers are Clinical Psychologists

* GSA CONFERENCE TRAVEL FUND DEADLINE / (02-15-2008 )/
The current Graduate Student Assembly Conference Travel Fund (CTF)
cycle runs from January 15th until February 15th, 2008. Applications
MUST be received by the deadline. The CTF funds graduate students
presenting their research at academic conferences. More information

* DRIVER(S) NEEDED FOR SPRING SEMESTER
Tanina Rostain, the Associate Master of Davenport College, is looking
for one or more drivers to drive her mother up to Gaylord Hospital in
Wallingford for a rehabilitation day treatment program on Tuesdays
and/or Thursdays. She will provide a car. The driver would need to
pick Tanina's mother up at 10:15 and would be back in New Haven by
3:15. (The trip each way is about 30 minutes.) Gaylord Hospital has a
comfortable library where a student can read and work during the rehab
session. (There is also a grocery store nearby so a student could get
shopping done as well.) Pay is $75 is a day if the driver chooses to
stay at Gaylord to wait. (Alternatively the driver could make two
separate trips, in which case, we would pay 22$ per round trip.) We
expect that this job will last through the end of the spring
semester. This job can be broken up in different pieces so if you can
only do one day; or even one roundtrip on several days, we would be
