Great program of musicians this week.  Classical guitarists Simon
Powis and Austin Moorhead, pianist Wei-Jen Yuan, and a three-trumpet
fanfare with Tom Bergeron, Aaron Hodgson, and Chih-Hao Lin.

Need a date for Valentine's Day?  Spending all your time in lab or
the library and looking to make some new friends or maybe more?  Then
join us for Speed Dating on February 13th at GYPSCY!  Sponsored by the
McDougal Center Social Fellows and GPSS, we will bring together
students from different schools and departments to facilitate your
relationships. The event will begin at 8 PM, and for only 3 dollars,
you will receive one free drink, light snacks, and an evening of
great company. Pre-registration is recommended so we can set up dates
appropriately, although we will take students at the door. Please

Panza and Carole Goldberg from the Yale Health Plan Mental Health and

performs Strauss' comic opera, Die Fledermaus at The Schubert

We are offering Peabody Museum vouchers for children. Vouchers ($5
value).for up to three children can be picked up at the McDougal Box
Office at the McDougal Center between nine and five.  You may want to
take advantage of the upcoming vacation ?Dino Days? at the museum. 
Vouchers will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.

  * LOCAL CHILDREN MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITY / ( )/
Interested in long-term mentorship with a local child?  Graduate
students are needed to work long-term with local children.  You'll be
here for a few years.  Use them to have a real impact on the life of
one child.  We will put you in touch with a child who needs you. 
It's up to you to determine how many hours a week you commit to that

  * COURTNEY'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Celebrate Valentine's Day at the New Haven Museum and Historical
Society.  On Thursday, February 14, 2008, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm, attend
a lecture by William Hosley on New Haven natives Richard and Karen
Carpenter and their career as performers.  The lecture will be
followed by a musical tribute performance by NHM trustee Andrew
Rubinoff and Neighborhood Music School voice instructor and singer
Anne Tofflemire.  Of course, Valentine's Day would not be complete
without champagne and strawberries!  $15 members, $20 non-members.

  * MEISHA'S INTERNATIONAL TIP OF THE WEEK
In celebration of International Women's Day, the International Cafe
will be hosting an evening reception on March 6 (7-9pm), which will
include a mix of performances. If you or your group is interested in
participating in this event (ie performing, be it spoken word,
instrumental music, singing, dancing, poetry, etc), or if you wish to

  * SUSAN'S KIDS AND FAMILY TIP OF THE WEEK
While it?s still cold and grey out there, it may be hard to think
about summer camp for your kid, but now?s the time to do it!  Finding
space in an affordable, quality day camp or that one week specialty
option can be as competitive as you know what.  My husband got up
with the walleyes this morning, put on his waders and waited on line
for hours to get my son a coveted spot in fishing camp!  So start
checking out those open houses, the day camp websites and your local
child care centers to see what offerings abound.

  * TAREK'S SPORTS TIP OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to Christina Roberto and the Yale Grad Running Club
on their awesome performance during the 5K Run for Refugees! 
Christina got third overall and first in the women's division with a
whooping time of 18:15!!!!

  * MATT'S SOCIAL TIP OF THE WEEK
Mardi Gras @ Morys. February 15.  Mory's will be reviving the cup
invented for Mardi Gras last year--The Hurricane Cup. Don't miss this

  * 8TH ANNUAL WINTER BALL UPDATE / (02-23-2008 9:00 PM - 2:00 AM)/
The Fellows and Staff of Grad Student Life @ the McDougal Center are
pleased to bring you the 8th Annual McDougal Winter Ball at the New
Haven Lawn Club on Saturday February 23rd, 2008 from 9pm-2am!  In the
lovely Grand Ballroom, the rocking Steve Atwood band will be playing
rock hits, followed by our favorite DJ Awesome playing contemporary
dance music from 11:30pm- 2am.  This year will again feature a
choco-licious dessert reception at 10pm, with all kinds of sweets and
cakes, included in the ticket price.  There will be a Cash Bar, and
complimentary coffee and water available.  All graduate and
professional students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff and
their spouses, partners and guests are welcome to attend. Dressy or
cocktail attire, or national dress costume, is suggested, but not
required.  Come with a group of friends or bring your significant
other.  Dates are welcome, but not required and we expect to have
many singles at the ball, so bring your friends and make some new
ones. BALL TICKET SALES: Advance tickets are $15 until 6pm on Friday
February 22nd at the McDougal Center Box office, HGS 123, 320 York

Connecticut Computer Assistants will offer a one-hour *EXCEL: Working

The current Graduate Student Assembly Conference Travel Fund (CTF)
cycle runs from January 15th until February 15th, 2008.  Applications
MUST be received by the deadline.  The CTF funds graduate students
presenting their research at academic conferences.  More information

advice on how to get your work published in academic journals while
you are in graduate school from a faculty panel of prolific authors

History, Religious Studies, History of Art and English. All graduate
students in the Humanities are invited to learn how to navigate the
