Graduate and professional students are invited to apply to be a
2009-10 McDougal Life Fellow in Arts, Blue Dog Cafe, Family, Intl,
Service, Social, Sports, Wellness. Fellows plan programs & events for
the grad community and help organize GSAS New Student Orientation.
Term of service: mid-August 2009- May 2010, flexible 5-7 hours a
week, receive $4300 annual honorarium & other perks. Apply online at

  * MCDOUGAL SPRING BREAK PHOTO CONTEST-- DEADLINE EXTENDED! /

Submit your vacation photos to the McDougal Spring Break Photo
Contest! Win great prizes and a chance for your photos to be
displayed at the International Center, 421 Temple Street. How to
enter? Just submit your vacation photos to mdcphotocontest at gmail.com
with your name and Yale affiliation. You may submit a maximum of
three photos. The photos need to be taken during the current academic
year. The judges will be looking for an "international" aspect in each
submitted photo. So, photos taken in the US should highlight some
international aspect or viewpoint. For official rules, check
www.yale.edu/icenter/events. Extended deadline: Midnight Thursday
April 9th. All submitted photos become the property of the OISS and

Back by popular demand: the Bonsai workshop! Learn about the culture
of these delicate trees and leave with your very own specimen! Cost

  * AMY'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Are you a playwright? The Long Wharf Theatre's literary manager will
present "From Page To Stage: the business end of playwriting," at The
New Haven Public Library, 133 Elm St., on Thursday, April 9, 6-7pm.
Playwrights are encouraged to attend to find out about formating
scripts for submission, submitting plays for production, and what
local and national resources exist to help in the process. Free!

For those of you who missed the excellent GPO/Worklife Event GPO ?
What children wished their parents knew about bullying with Marji
Lipshez- Shapiro, I can highly recommend the anti-bullying DVD,
?Shredderman Rules,? an encouraging story about a nerdy, but creative
adolescent who uses spy gear and blogging to overcome his tormentor
and save his community from ecological destruction.  For school-aged
kids.

  * TOM'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
This week the Yale Cabaret presents "Waking", the world premiere of
an original play by Philip Owen featuring an 8 piece jazz band! Shows

Fellows in front of HGS  at 5pm then walk over to the wine thief for a
great time!

  * ROCK TO ROCK CYCLING FESTIVAL / (04-24-2009 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM)/
Registration Open!  Join us for a city-wide cycling celebration, and
a fundraiser for local environmental work! Riders will set out from
East Rock park for a cross-city bicycling adventure. On our way to
West Rock, we will eat tasty food, hear great music, plant a tree,
and explore the city's parks. We'll travel along the Farmington Canal
Trail and official city bike lanes, pass through many of the city's
beautiful neighborhoods, and make stops in Beaver Pond and Edgewood
Parks on their way between the Rocks. Think you're hard-core? Take
detours to the top of the two rocks. Have a little kid in tow? Join
us for part of the ride. Families and college students, 20-something
hipsters and teenagers, young and old, serious riders and weekend
warriors will all be welcomed. Register to be a rider, sponsored

  * SELF DEFENSE SEMINAR FOR WOMEN / (04-25-2009 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM)/
Location: 6th floor mat room, Payne Whitney Gym. Join other graduate
students in learning easy/simple self defense moves, get full time
training and hands on combat maneuvering with martial art experts! 
This seminar will be hosted by the Yale Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
clubs and will include warm up, safety training and teaching/practice
sessions. Please dress appropriately (athletic wear).  For sign up

School. Afterwards in the ballroom and downstairs, we will be having

mixed drinks. Fun times for all on the best and least creepy
dancefloor in New Haven.

Renowned folksinger, Prahlad Siongh Tipanya from the Indian state of
Madhya Pradesh, along with his group of musicians from the Indian
state of Madhya Pradesh, will perform a program of Kabir songs at the
MacMillan Center. This event is free and open to the Yale Community.

  * EIGHTH ANNUAL CRITICAL ISLAMIC REFLECTIONS CONFERENCE: COMMUNITY

This year's CIR conference, "Community Leadership in American Islam,"
will focus on institutional and individual leadership in the American

  * PSYCHOANALYTIC TRAINING: GRAD STUDENTS WELCOME
The Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis is offering a
two-year training program for scholars and academics interested in
psychoanalytic thought and its application to their work.  Classes
run one evening a week and are intended to complement ongoing
