  * ROCK TO ROCK CYCLING FESTIVAL / (04-25-2009 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM)/
Registration Open! Join us for a city-wide cycling celebration, and a
fundraiser for local environmental work! Riders will set out from East
Rock park for a cross-city bicycling adventure. On our way to West
Rock, we will eat tasty food, hear great music, plant a tree, and
explore the city's parks. We'll travel along the Farmington Canal
Trail and official city bike lanes, pass through many of the city's
beautiful neighborhoods, and make stops in Beaver Pond and Edgewood
Parks on their way between the Rocks. Think you're hard-core? Take
detours to the top of the two rocks. Have a little kid in tow? Join
us for part of the ride. Families and college students, 20-something
hipsters and teenagers, young and old, serious riders and weekend

Before CommUniversity Day starts, Join the McDougal Family Fellows
for a Bagel Brunch in HGS.  Then head to CommUniversity Day at Yale?s
Old Campus, bounded by College, Chapel, High and Elm streets.   This
event is designed to raise awareness among New Haven residents of
available community services.   Free and open to the public, the
annual celebration features a moon bounce, arts and crafts, face
painting and science exhibits, handicrafts and performances. 11
a.m.?3 p.m.

  * SELF DEFENSE SEMINAR FOR WOMEN / (04-25-2009 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM)/
Join other graduate students in learning easy/simple self defense
moves, get full time training and hands on combat maneuvering with
martial art experts! Event sponsored by Student Life at the McDougal

Miller's "Death of a Salesman." Three-time Emmy Award winner and

  * YALE/NEW HAVEN: A READING OF LOCAL WRITERS / (04-27-2009 6:00 PM
- 8:00 PM)/
This event brings together local writers in a variety of genres, both
prose and poetry, from Yale as well as the broader New Haven
community. Featured readers include Mark Oppenheimer, Brian Slattery,
Alison Moncrief, Pang-Mei Natasha Chang, Dan Casey, Bennett
Lovett-Graff, Donald Brown, Caitie Barrett, Greg Santos, Charles
Douthat, and James Berger. Co-sponsored by the McDougal Center for
Graduate Student Life and the New Haven Review. Location: Room 119,
Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York Street. Free and open to the
public.

  * BLUE DOG CAFE CLOSINGS / ( )/
The Blue Dog Cafe will be open during regular hours up through Monday
April 27, then will be open reading week Tues April 28-May 1 from 
9am-2pm. It will be closed for the summer after May 1. See you in the
Fall!

  * ERIN'S COMMUNITY SERVICE TIP OF THE WEEK
April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month.  Along these lines,
the New Haven Animal Shelter, located at 81 Fournier Street, will be
holding a tag sale on Sunday, May 3rd from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The
proceeds from the tag sale will go towards caring for the animals in
the shelter as well as providing pet food to residents who cannot

  * MCDOUGAL'S  TIP OF THE WEEK
Free Dental Care! On April 17th and 18th, the Connecticut State
Dental Association will be sponsoring a free dental care event at the
New Haven Citywide Public Greenhouse, 480 Sherman Parkway.  There are
no eligibility or income requirements and care will be provided on a
first come, first serve basis.  Services will include: fillings,
cleanings, extractions, partial dentures, and root canals.  For more

  * LISA'S  TIP OF THE WEEK

  * PATRICIA'S COMMUNITY SERVICE TIP OF THE WEEK
Volunteers Needed! Over 450 students from West Haven Public Schools
will visit the Peabody Museum at the end of April.  This is a one
time event to expose students to DNA and excite them about science. 
The Peabody needs 6 people a day to help groups of students with
their DNA extraction on April 24, 28-30 and May 1,  from 9:30- 10:45
or 10:45 to noon.  No special skills are needed.  This will take
placein the Peabody Museum auditorium (3rd floor).  To volunteer,

  * SUSAN'S KIDS AND FAMILY TIP OF THE WEEK
Spring is here!  A fun, inexpensive kid?s activity is kite flying. 
Make your own easily or buy a prefabricated one.  Then, head out to a
big open field in a local park.  If your kite is aerodynamically
challenged, there is almost always an experienced kite flyer around
who will be happy to show you the ropes (no pun intended)!

The Rev. John G. Magee ?06 Fellowship seeks students to work with the
professional staff of Dwight Hall, leaders from the Dwight Hall
Cabinet and Student Executive Committee, coordinators of the Social
Justice Network, and the Yale Chaplain?s Office through Yale
Religious Ministries to promote a culture of action and reflection at
Dwight Hall, generate service and justice opportunities for students
of faith, foster collaborative efforts between various faith-based
and secular student organizations, and nurture the skills and
well-being of student leaders. The Fellowship is a 15 hour/week
commitment throughout the 2009-2010 academic year and offers a

emergency shelters for women and children and supportive housing
programs for families living with disabilities, has opened its
donations warehouse to the public to raise money. Various household
