The Blue Dog Cafe at the McDougal Center is now OPEN to serve your
caffeine needs! This week we are featuring the award-winning
Intelligentsia House Blend. Our dessert of the week this week
features delicious and mouthwatering apple pie. We also offer a
variety of espresso-based drinks, bottled smoothies, healthy bars,
and light snacks to accompany your visit to the divine McDougal

* LITERACY MONTH BOOKDRIVE AT THE BLUE DOG / (9-21 to 10-2 )/
September is national literacy month. Blue Dog Cafe and the Public
Service Fellow are sponsoring a bookdrive to benefit the New Haven
Literacy Resource Center. Bring a book to the Blue Dog cafe and
receive a coupon for a free cup of coffee. Limit one coupon per day.
* HEALTH ADVOCATES DINNER / (09-21-2009 6pm)/
Interested in promoting health and well-being among your fellow grad
students? Help plan exciting health programs and be a voice for your
fellow students. Join the McDougal center as a Health Advocate! Come
to an informational and FREE dinner at HGS dining hall on September
21 at 6pm to learn about the role of a health advocate.
* TALENT TUESDAY / (09-22-2009 7-8pm)/
Everyone should come out Tuesday night to Talent Tuesday! The first
TT will feature a variety of acts from original Greek music to poetry
readings. This will be a great way to start the TT series! Blue Dog

* GRADS CARE PUBLIC SERVICE LUNCH: ONGOING SERVICE IN LOCAL
EDUCATION / (09-23-2009 12-1pm)/
Come to first installment of Grads Care Public Service Lunch: Ongoing
Service in Local Education (09-23-2009, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) The
luncheon series will feature education outreach opportunities in New
Haven including New Haven Public Schools, New Haven Literacy Resource
Center (that homes four different literacy opportunities), Teach for
America, and others. This free lunch will take place at HGS Room
119B. If you plan on attending please email

Come to the McDougal Common Room before the GPSS mega mixer to enjoy
tacos and tequila! Tacos do not have to be unhealthy. Learn tasty
alternative to high fat tacos as well as a tequila tasting. Pre
registration is required and limited to 35 people. $7 fee tickets
should be purchased in advance @ McDougal Tix office, 124 HGS, M-F

* APPLE PICKING / (09-26-2009 10am-1pm)/
Come join us for apple picking and a hay ride at a local orchard
where we'll pick apples and enjoy cider and a snack afterwards. We'll
provide transportation and cover the cost of the orchard, you provide
the hands and lots of fun energy! To sign up, email

tickets and reserve your bus space: parents with children $5.00, all
ages of children $3.00, other Grad Students $8.00.
* RUSSIAN SHASHLYK (BBQ) PARTY / (09-26-2009 12-4pm)/
YANIS / Russian Club of Yale Students cordially invites you to our
traditional celebration of the start of the new academic year - the
Russian-style Shashlyk (BBQ) party! We will be making a delicious
Shashlyk (BBQ) on the grill for you, and serving it with a variety of
beverages and refreshments. We expect many people from various
countries, not only Russian-speaking. Located at College Woods (this
is in East Rock park, near the intersection of Cold Spring St. and

mooncakes and tea! We will have an easy paper lantern craft project
that children (big and small) can make and take home! This event is
open to the Yale community - students, scholars, staff and their

Confused about dining etiquette? This is a hands-on workshop for
learning about and mastering the social faux pas that can occur
surrounding food etiquette in social settings. Located at 421 Temple

* MCDOUGAL CENTER GOES OKTOBERFEST / (10-10-2009 3-8pm)/
Join the McDougal bus to the East Side German Restaurant
(www.eastsiderestaurant.com) and celebrate a German Oktoberfest with
fellow grad students. Enjoy German food, beer, and music! Ticekts are
$25 per person for transportation & German buffet (please bring own $$

* YALE PHILHARMONIA CONCERT #1 / (09-25-2009 8-10pm)/
Come to hear the Yale Philharmonia Orchestra's first concert of the
2009-10 season. The YPO is the Yale School of Music's very own all
graduate student orchestra. This concert will include music of Verdi,
Bruch and Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. This concert at Woolsey
Hall is absolutely free -- so... bring a friend!!!

Westville). Student admission to home football games is FREE- Just

* DANIEL'S COMMUNITY SERVICE TIP OF THE WEEK
New Haven/Leon Sister City Project is sponsoring the Climate Action
NOW Bike Ride on Saturday, September 26th 10:00am ? noon. The ride
will start from the flag pole on the New Haven Green. This ride will
be a low impact, relaxed bike ride to various sites in New Haven to
get the word out about climate change and its impact on places like
Nicaragua.

* VEHICLE REGISTRATION & TAXATION IN CT
All motor vehicles are subject to a local property tax under
Connecticut state law- whether registered in this state or not. If
you do not register a motor vehicle but retain ownership, you must
annually file a declaration form with your assessor(s) between
October 1 and November 1. Local towns & cities are aggressively
stepping up inspection & enforcement of tax payments for all
vehicles, so we encourage you to keep your vehicle taxes current with

* YALE GRAD WOMEN?S RUGBY / (09-24-2009 6pm)/
The Yale Graduate Women's Rugby Football Club is having practice this
Thursday at 6pm at Wilbur Cross High School (181 Mitchell Drive, near
east rock park). The practice field is located behind the
football/track complex. No experience is necessary and players of all

* YALE RUSSIAN CHORUS AUDITIONS
Interested in Russian culture, language, or music? Join the Yale
Russian Chorus, a 56-year old tenor-bass a capella ensemble
specializing in Slavic and East European folk and sacred music.
Rehearsals are a mere two-and-a-half hours a week! If interested,

required.
