* YALE DAY OF SERVICE / (10-03-2009 8:30-2pm)/
Looking for an opportunity to give back to the community? Then join
us for the Yale Graduate School Day of Service! Sites are filling up
quickly - visit www.tinyurl.com/ydos2009 for information on the sites
we'll be working at and for registration information. Meet at HGS at
8:30 for breakfast, buses leave at 9:30 for the sites, then return to
HGS at 1:30 for lunch. You can sign up with your friends and work at
the same sites, but you have to do it by October 1st! Sponsored by

* GRAD NIGHT WITH THE YALE JAZZ ENSEMBLE / (09-29-2009 6:45-9pm)/
Come to the McDougal common room to grab some fresh cookies baked by
our very own blue dog cafe. We will also offer free liqueurs to
flavor those fresh coffee's purchased at the cafe. The concert begins
at 7:30 and will feature music of the famous clarinetist, Benny
Goodman. With free fresh baked cookies, some "spiced" up coffee and a
great show how can you go wrong?
* MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL / (09-30-2009 7-9pm)/
Come celebrate the mid-autumn festival with traditional Chinese
mooncakes and tea! We will have an easy paper lantern craft project
that children (big and small) can make and take home! This event is
open to the Yale community - students, scholars, staff and their
families (spouses/partners and children)! Located at 421 Temple

Confused about dining etiquette? This is a hands-on workshop for
learning about and mastering the social faux pas that can occur
surrounding food etiquette in social settings. Located at 421 Temple

Want to explore the Chapel Street stores, or just get ahead on your
Christmas shopping? Join the Chapel Street Shopping Crawl! Select

McDougal Sports & Rec fellows & GPSCY bring you the ultimate showdown
of grad student awesomeness! Teams of 5 will challenge each other for
the title of Master of GPSCY Trivia Night (and for another
not-yet-decided but sure-to-be-amazing prize)! Sign your team up in

Give the gift of warmth to international students and scholars
experiencing their first New England winter! We are looking for
donations of new or gently used winter apparel items - coats, hats,
gloves, mittens, scarves, sweaters, ski pants, etc. -- for men,
women, and children. We appreciated if used items be laundered or

Looking to get or change your driver?s license, registered a vehicle,
or wondering you need to have an emissions test done? The DMV in
Hamden north on state street is open Tuesday-Saturday and can be
accessed online through

advised to go early in the morning. P.S. AAA members can renew their
CT driver?s licenses through a local AAA branch.
* ULLI AND MAGGIE'S SOCIAL TIP OF THE WEEK
Check out the Fall Jazz Series at Firehouse with performances every
other Friday @8:30 and 10pm. http://firehouse12.com/ This Friday you
can see acclaimed New York drummer/composer Matt Wilson and his
longstanding quartet celebrating their latest release. While you are
there stop at the bar, New Haven's yearly Advocate Reader's Poll
winner since it opened in 2006.
* MARKUS AND SOPHIA'S STUDENT LIFE TIP OF THE WEEK
The Yale Club of NYC offer discount membership rates for currently

If you're looking for a good butcher, I've heard great things about
the butcher at Ferraro's Market on Grand Avenue. For extra savings,
try going on Friday evenings when they're trying to get rid of some
inventory to make room for new goods.

To save some money, check in your grocery store for a damaged goods
cart. Markets often sell dented cans for 35-50% off because they
can't get full price for them. There's nothing wrong with the food,
just the cans.

Do you need help with your nutrition regimen? Ask your primary care
physician at YUHS for a referral to see the nutritionist and start
learning about healthy eating habits!

* GRAD STUDENT NEEDS HELP!
A graduate student from Memorial University is looking for someone to
retrieve and obtain copies of selected documents from The New England
Grenfell Association Records (Manuscript Group 1200) at Yale
University Manuscript and Archives Library. The work would involve
searching Box 12, 13, and 16 for any transactions related to the
Education Fund, arranging for photocopies or creating digital images
of the documents, and returning them to her in Newfoundland. The work
should take less than a day and she needs it done before the end of
October. Contact Helen Woodrow (hmwoodrow at gmail.com) to arrange
compensation and details.
