To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.

2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or attachments.

3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has

posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

Vilnius Summer Program in Yiddish

at the Vilnius Yiddish Institute <http://www.judaicvilnius.com/en> at

The summer of 2009 marks the tenth anniversary of the Vilnius Summer
Program in Yiddish (= the one-month European Summer Program in Yiddish,
founded at Oxford in 1982 and relocated to Vilnius in 1998). We plan to
celebrate with the best program ever. The faculty comprises Mr. Hanan
Bordin <http://www.linkedin.com/pub/4/295/ba8> (Hebrew University of
Jerusalem); Prof. Dov-Ber Kerler
<http://www.indiana.edu/%7Ealldrp/members/kerler.html> (University of
Indiana); Dr. Maria Krupoves <http://www.goldenland.com/krupoves.htm>
(Vilnius Yiddish Institute); Prof. Abraham Lichtenboim
<http://www.linkedin.com/pub/4/2a3/284> (Director of Yivo in Buenos
Aires); Prof. Anna Verschik
<http://www.jewish-languages.org/averschik.html> (Tallinn University &
University of Helsinki, Finland). The academic advisors are Prof. Dovid
Katz <http://www.dovidkatz.net/>, who founded the original program at
Oxford, and Prof. Sarunas Liekis
<http://www.versus.lt/Pub/default.aspx?Page=WriterDetails&ID=112>, who
has directed the Vilnius Yiddish Institute since its inception. In
addition, there will be a rich program of cultural activities,
historical walks, concerts, workshops, seminars, panels and the renowned
////shabes-tish//. There will be a visit to a former shtetl in the
company of a Yiddish speaking survivor who grew up there before the war.
