D'UN PAYS SANS AMOUR
A novel dealing with Yiddish culture

Dear Mendelianer,

My sixth novel, D'un pays sans amour, has been published in Paris (Grasset 
publishing) in August 2011. This novel is dealing with Yiddish culture in 
Eastern Europe from the turn of the century until the end of the 30s. 
Pierre, a young man discovering Yiddish and Yiddish culture, contacts 
Sulamita, a very lod lady living in a palace in Rome in which she gathered 
after the Second World War the largest Yiddish library of the world. 
Sulamita is the daughter of well-known Yiddish writer and photographer 
Alter Kacyzne. Pierre asks her to tell him all she knows about the 
vanished world she was born in : Yiddish culture in Warsaw. Sulamita 
begins to tell, and realizing the impossibility of telling everything, 
focuses on the lifes of three fellow writers of her father : Peretz 
Markish, Uri-Zvi Greenberg and Melekh Rawicz, the redactors of the 
avant-garde journal Khalastre (Warsaw 1922). The novel jumps from Galicia 
to Vienna, Ukraine to Warsaw, Berlin to Palestine, Soviet Kiev ans Moscow, 
Madchouria, Australia, South and North America.


Until now, six foreign publishers have decided to translate it : Ambo 
Antos in the Netherlands, Alianza (Spain and hispanic America), 
Wydawnictwo Literackie (Poland), Paradox (Bulgaria), Xargol (Israel) and 
the prestigious Die andere Bibliothek (Aufbau publishing) in Germany, the 
publisher of W. G. Sebald.

My French publisher and I are trying to find a publisher in the United 
States (or Canada), considering that a novel about Yiddish culture may 
find a readership among the first Ashkenazic community in the world. One 
of my former novel, Un amour sans rsistance, translated into 12 languages, 
has been published in the nited States by Little, Brown and C in 2005 
under the title The Mercy room.(Poland), Paradox (Bulgaria), Xargol 
(Israel) and the prestigious Die andere Bibliothek (Aufbau publishing) in 
Germany, the publisher of W. G. Sebald. My French publisher and I are 
trying to find a publisher in the United States If you are a publisher, an 
agent, a translator from French or if you have an idea about which 
publisher can be interested in such a novel, please contact me. I will be 
pleased to send you a copy of the book in French and/or an English 
translation of 40 pages.
