Mendele Personal Notices & Announcements

June 6, 2012

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.
2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or
attachments;and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line.
3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has
posted the notice,
*not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

Subject: Seeking a conversational partner

My 87-year-old mother is a native speaker of Yiddish. She was born in
Latvia in a household in which Yiddish was her mother tongue. At this
point in her life she has no one with whom she can speak Yiddish on a
regular basis.

I'm looking for individuals who are fluent in Yiddish who would be
interested in speaking with her by telephone once a week or so. She
taught Yiddish for many years through a community center in Florida.
She is in the very early stages of dementia, and I know that she would
greatly benefit from and enjoy using Yiddish on a regular basis.

Please contact me with any referrals or suggestions, and thanks so
much for your help.
