Title: American Indian Genocide Museum STAR Quilt Project
Website: www.aigmstarquilt.com.
The star quilt is often given in recognition or as an honor. The American
Indian Genocide Museum and Students and Teachers Against Racism are
calling for the honoring of all of the millions of American Indians whose
lives have been changed by colonization and the many who have suffered and
died in countless massacres, wars and removals over the last 500 years. We
are requesting the participation of all tribes in the construction of this
quilt, which we hope will accomplish so many goals, including:
• Bringing recognition of the true history of American Indians on both a
local and national level.
• Brining national attention to the genocide of the last 500 years which
has been ignored in education.
• Encouraging all tribes to promote this quilt within their own local
areas with the hopes of bringing local history into the curriculum of the
schools as well as all schools nationally.
• Encouraging non-Indian communities to accept their part in history and
to acknowledge the past as a means of bringing healing to Indian children
and communities today.
Please visit the website for more information, including forms for those
who wish to participate. Article about the project:
