1/ CALL FOR PAPERS  Ninth Annual CIC American Indian Studies Consortium
Graduate Student Conference and Paper Competition
Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana
April 3-5, 2008
Deadline for receipt of abstracts and prize competition papers is March 
15, 2008.

Graduate students from CIC institutions are encouraged to present papers 
in any academic field relating to American Indian Studies.  To be 
included in the program please submit a title and 50-75 word abstract.

To enter the competition, submit two copies of your paper.  All 
competitors must present their papers at the conference.  Four cash 
prizes will be awarded: First place $100, Second place $50, Third place 
(2 awarded) $50.

Students are not required to enter the prize competition to present a 
paper.  If you are not competing, you need only send your title and 
abstract.

2/ Susan Kelly Power and Helen Hornbeck Tanner Fellowship
Deadline March 1, 2008
This fellowship for Ph.D. candidates and post-doctoral scholars of 
Indian heritage supports up to two months of residential research, 
using the collections of the Newberry Library, and provides a stipend of 
$1600 per month. Applicants for this fellowship need not be from outside 
the Chicago area.

3/ Frances C. Allen Fellowships
Deadline: March 1, 2008
This fellowship is for women of Indian heritage. While candidates for 
this award may be working in any graduate or pre-professional field, the 
particular goal of the Allen Fellowship is to encourage Indian women in 
their studies of the humanities and social sciences. Financial support 
varies according to need and may include travel expenses. Allen Fellows 
are expected to spend a significant part of their tenure in residence at 
the Newberry's D'Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian History. The 
tenure of the fellowship is from one month to one year; the fellowship 
provides up to $8,000 in approved expenses. Please note: applicants for 
the Allen Fellowship must fill out a supplementary form in addition to 
the cover sheet for special awards and fellowships.
