Department of Educational and School Psychology and Special Education
Assistant or Associate Professor of Education (Special Education)

This is a tenure-track position in the Department of Educational and School Psychology and Special Education in the College of Education.  The successful candidate will have faculty responsibilities that include teaching research, and service.
Beginning
Fall Semester 2009 or Spring Semester 2010

Appointment conditions
A 36-week tenure-track appointment willl be made at the assistant or associate professor level starting August of 2009 or January of 2010; summer appointments in research and/or teaching may be possible. Responsibilities

 *   Teach and advise both undergraduate and graduate students.
 *   Develop a successful well-defined program of research.
 *   Generate external funding for the support of related research, training, or outreach efforts.
 *   Work collaboratively with fauclty in academic programs throughout the University.
 *   Provide service to the College, profession, and community.

Required qualifications
Earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field

 *   Minimum of two years professional experience with individuals with special needs and/or individuals at risk for special education services.
 *   Evidence of, or strong potential for, significant research and publications.
 *   Evidence of a strong background in research design.
 *   Strong commitment to teaching and advising both undergraduate and graduate students.
 *   Experience in working with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
 *   Commitment to collegiality and collaboration; evidence of the capability to undertake interdisciplinary and collaborative research.

Desirable qualifications
Applicants should have expertise in either early intervention, special education law, applied behavior analysis, and/or effective (explicit) instruction.

Department of Educational and School Psychology and Special Education (ESPSE)
Three programs constitute this Department:  Educational Psychology, School Psychology, and Special Education.  The graduate program in Special Education was ranked 12th in the nation in the most recent ranking of 1,300 special education graduate programs.  The ESPSE Department is a dynamic group of College faculty, staff, and students within Penn State's College of Education who:

 *   work to develop effective ways of teaching and evaluating both children and adults in a variety of educational settings across the life span;
