POSITION TITLE:  MUSEUM COLLECTIONS MANAGER

POSITION REFERENCE NO: 469

LEVEL:  14 (MINIMUM STARTING SALARY- $23,628)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a full-time permanent position
(40 hours per week with a benefits package) at the Gulf Coast
Research Laboratory Museum.

This position is devoted to the use, care, maintenance of the
GCRL Museum and to provide technical assistance to the Senior 
Ichthyologist and Curator.

STARTING DATE: Immediate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
 *Curation and maintenance of research specimens and associated
   computerized and non-computerized records, equipment,
   collecting  gear, ethanol, and curatorial supplies in a highly
   organized way;
 *Identification of scientific materials;
 *Performing computer-assisted record management;  
 *Operation of photo lab and radiographic facilities;
 *Supervision of project-funded employees, auxiliary staff, and
   students;
 *Work with GCRL and visiting professionals;
 *Conduct scientific field collections, and assist Senior Curator 
   in data collection, curation, and collections maintenance;
 *Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*Demonstrate excellent organizational skills [essential];
*Master's degree in marine biology, fisheries science, or a
  related discipline and 3 years of demonstrated experience or a
  bachelor's degree, with the equivalent of 5 years of
  demonstrated technical experience, including the ability to
  supervise others, work with computers and scientific equipment,
  a strong working knowledge of fish biology and interest in
  systematic biology, and an interest in the study and
  conservation of the marine environment. Applicants holding a
  Master's degree are preferred, although those meeting the minimum
  requirements are encouraged to apply. Women and those in
  minority groups under-represented in science are particularly
  encouraged to apply.
