I agree that it's valuable to give a "heads up" when something's going out,
but what's wrong with email for that?  

And no, Rich, we too have a lot of unacknowledged shipments.  We send two
copies, one to keep and one to return, so labelled at the bottom of the page
in large capital letters and highlighted in orange marker.  It's really
rather disturbing how many people either don't return any, or return the one
labelled "this copy to be retained by addressee."
