[NHCOLL-L:1665] museum space

I'm wondering how other museums handle requests by non-academic researchers for working space in their collections.  We get a fair amount of use by people in state agencies, etc., who need to use the plant collecion to verify their own work.  In some cases these folks want space to store their materials.  I'm talking here about a significant amount of space for the long-term (years).  How do others handle this sort of thing?
