Dear Carrie:
Direct your query to natural history museums. I believe they have a group -- or perhaps an AAM subgroup -- of their own. By the by, try to find out the conservation history of those items. I understand that old taxidermy methods sometimes involved hazardous chemicals that can cause health problems for those who handle -- or work around -- those objects.

Subject: Buffalo hide and stuffed pidgeon
Most of our collection here at the Newseum is paper but we have a few items
outside that realm...namely a buffalo hide and stuffed carrier
pidgeon...that I am seeking advise about how to care for. Neither are on
exhibit currently and are expected to spend about 3 years in storage, but I
am clueless about the best temperature, humidity, storage method, and/or
whether they may be prone to bugs that could damage them and/or the other
artifacts. Any and all advise is clearly appreciated.
