The Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies announces space is
still available for the following courses:
"Collections Management in Storage"
Instructors: Terry Birkett & Mary Turner
Date: September 27 - October 1, 2004
This workshop will address aspects of collections care for objects housed
in an institution's storage and will include both lecture and demonstration
sessions. Three major areas of storage will be highlighted: collections
management, facilities, and cabinetry/housings.
"Computer Software for Collections Management"
Instructor: Terry Birkett
Date: October 4 - 6, 2004
This workshop will familiarize participants with the basics of museum record
keeping, cataloging systems, and computerization. Computer equipment,
software, and cataloging databases will be discussed and compared.
Participants will learn the basics of database construction, and build their
own database using a popular commercially available product.
Please Note: $300 Scholarships from the National Endowment for the
Humanities are available for all the above courses.
Course fees include accommodations and some meals.

The Campbell Center is a mid-career training facility for professionals in
the Historic Preservation, Collections Care, and Conservation fields.
Located in Northwestern Illinois, on the campus of the former Shimer
College, the Center is about 3 hours west of Chicago. Shuttle service is
available from Rockford, Illinois. Bus connections are available from
Chicago's O'Hare airport to Rockford. Details are available from the
