The Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History is
offering a full-time, 8-week internship for a student in paleontology or a
related field (July 1 start). The intern will participate in a project to
upgrade the housing of type specimens in the AMNH fossil mammal
collection. There are over 2,700 type specimens in this collection,
ranging from isolated teeth of small mammals, through large skulls and
mounted skeletons. The majority are small to medium sized specimens, which
are both fragile and frequently handled by researchers. The intern will
work with collection management, preparation, and conservation staff to
inventory the type collection and construct archival quality housings for
specimens and associated labels.
A stipend will be provided as support over the internship period.
