Dear List members:
The University of Michigan is taking offers on the Compactor that was
removed from the North University Building in 2002 and not reinstalled
when the Herbarium moved to its new location. It has been stored in
partially protected inside quarters.
Some statistics about the unit:
Model - Spacesaver S/4
Original purchase: 1994 at a cost of $262,500
Original installation: 29 rows of carriages, each row holding 32 single
(or 16 doubles and 1 single) herbarium cabinets back-to-back. An
assembled carriage was almost 40' long and 38 3/8" wide; each carriage
is composed on five sections. Carriages would accommodate all standard
American cases except Paramount. Two-tube fluorescent lights were
installed on top of the cabinets in each row along the entire length
except for the center 3' of the row.
Components included: all of the carriage sections, end panels for one
end of each row (color is "Holly Berry", a bright red), all electrical
components (including one low-voltage motor per carriage), all lights
and hardware for attaching them to the top of the cabinets.
Components not included: herbarium cases, floor panels, rails.
I have images of the installed unit available - just ask. I would be
glad to answer questions about the system.
Offers can be made to Steve Sinelli at University of Michigan Property
Disposition, 3241 Baxter Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2155 - 734-764-2590.
Sincerely,
Richard K. Rabeler,
Collections Manager, Vascular Plants
