I spoke with Jim Russell today at TLS Printing.

He assured me they are still printing tags with the old style printing presses (that used to be owned by Allen Bailey and by National Tag before that). However, the supplier of the "Vulcanized Fiber" paper product has changed and they are getting a steady supply of unbleached gray stock (no longer blue tinted or orange tinted). NVF (National Vulcanized Fiber), the former supplier of "Forbon White Tag", is no longer in business. I believe they were the only manufactures of vulcanized fiber in the United States. I believe it is all manufactured overseas now (mostly China).
I also spoke to my old friend, Lilian Larabee, at the Allen Bailey Tag and Label Company. Most of their printing in now done on polymer films, Tyvec, Normal, etc. They print some larger tags on vulcanized fiber, but it is the unbleached gray stock.
I believe the unbleached product, while maybe not as aesthetically satisfying, performs the same as the bleached and is probably all that is available now.

Subject: [NHCOLL-L:3935] specimen tags for museum skin specimens (mammal and bird)
Hello,
We are trying to order archival specimen tags for museum study skins.
The company that we had last ordered from has sold that part of their
business and the new owners have a "gray" colored material that they
use. I want something white or off-white to hand write the information
on. We also would like our museum's name printed on them. Does anyone
have a source for these type of tags? I have searched the web and
cannot find anything. Thanks for any information you can supply.
