[Nhcoll-l] Effect of Global Database Inclusion on Loan Requests

Sarah, et al.

Your questions are good ones and we, at VertNet, are currently working with
at least one collection to see what, if any, results are a consequence of
joining a network such as FishNet. In fact, your question has prompted us
to look to expand our group of institutions in our so-far-informal study.

Certainly, we have lots of anecdotal information from collections that
their use and exposure has increased, just as Andy and Nelson have
suggested. Some of those collections have documentation to prove it,
others do not, so we have undertaken to make certain that a sampling of
collections ready to join VertNet are keeping good records on metrics such
as loan requests, visits to the collections, and phone inquiries prior to
inclusion in the data network, as well as tracking the same things after
inclusion.

We hope that we'll be able to publish a short paper on our results in the
future.

best,
dave
