Hi all,

with regard to customs law, the following applies (globally, not only 
for imports to the EU):

Basic assumption 1: commodities are imported for resale
Basic assumption 2: commodities are imported for private purpose.

Both are basically dutiable.

The main problems DEFINITELY lies with insufficient data being entered 
into the electronic declaration forms of postal carriers (e.g. FedEx, 
UPS, etc.), or incomplete or missing shipping docs.

Shipping docs should clearly state that materials sent is on LOAN 
(include a copy of the loan form -> evidence that ownership is not 
transferred). You may add "not commercial, not for resale".
Use the proper Customs tariff code (HS-Code 9705.00) which helps customs 
to identify the commodity.

Specific problems for imports to Spain might be eased by sending loans 
to European colleagues outside Spain that are willing to forward them to 
repsective colleagues in Spain (there are no border checks and thus 
customs checks for intra-European shipments).
