One of the great references about fluid collections and their management is John Simmons “Herpetological Collecting and collections management” - https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.ssarbooks.com_si_007.html&d=CwIGaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=CLFZJ3fvGSmDp7xK1dNZfh6uGV_h-8NVlo3fXNoRNzI&m=-1I9zu_uh0Kfv3cRcwGd1KaTdiOFNBbmpI37nOS1-5s&s=uGmc21BMzHbz64_HWE2buJdNzPW6v5M1rfHy9yu6buM&e=

I am happy to help with any specific questions that you may have regarding fluid collections and management thereof. I can provide you with suppliers of jars etc. if need be. There are also probably other collections in your area that you may be able to visit to get help.

One other thing you may consider is joining the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (www.SPNHC.org<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.SPNHC.org&d=CwIGaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=CLFZJ3fvGSmDp7xK1dNZfh6uGV_h-8NVlo3fXNoRNzI&m=-1I9zu_uh0Kfv3cRcwGd1KaTdiOFNBbmpI37nOS1-5s&s=Fefi1POuTpNp595rbyGG0JNDk7Sxllvuk1OQTgTuo6w&e= >) if you have not done so already.

Subject: [Nhcoll-l] Guides for specimen management

Hi everyone,

We have a small teaching collection at Wilkes that is in terrible shape and I am most worried about the specimens in jars. Eventually, though, I will need to deal with the mammals and birds as well.

I have no experience with curation and I was wondering if there are some books that you could recommend to get me started (e.g., how to identify liquids, types of jars to use, etc).

Many thanks,

Jeff
