[Nhcoll-l] Paraloid and DNA preservation

Hi all

As you know, some samples (including biological samples) must be treated with some kind of varnish taht helps to compact the external surface. This is important for woods, bones and nests collections, for example. A very useful product for this is the Paraloid, mixed with acetone to obtain a convenient solution that penetrates so inner in the object.

Do you know (or imagine) if this combination (Paraloid + acetone) could be agressive for DNA preservation? I want to say if a sample treated with this chemical could lost the DNA (or DNA quality) much more than another without treatment?

Thank you very much!

Sergio
