[Nhcoll-l] [EXTERN] Shipping sampled leaf material to China

Hi Mare,
We have not sent any plant material to China since early 2024 after we had a lichen loan returned to us as we did not have a phytosanitary certificate accompanying the specimens. The advice at the time (from CAS, Kunming) was:
If there are a lot of soil in the specimen, it might need Phytosanitary certificate, if not, it will be OK.
We proceeded to send as our lichen material didn't have soil present, but it still failed to clear customs due to not having a certificate....
Can be a bit of a lottery sending to China in our experience, but things may have changed over the last 12 months as Dirk mentions. Maybe get your collaborators over there to do a bit of digging before deciding to send.
Cheers,
Donney

Hi Mare,
I recently shipped material to HMAS in Beijing and they let me know FedEx would work fine, and it did. As for other issues, I made sure to use the correct tariff code and write a description that was precise and had no issues. I have not heard about any other issues with botanical materials to China, assuming it is not a pathogen/parasite. Then I assume there would be some import permits needed.
Best wishes,
Genevieve

Hi Mare,
my information might be outdated as it is pre-Covid:
Back then, it was advised to sue DHL Express for deliveries within mainland China should, because DHL Express had the most solid grid in the country. Back then, we shipped zoological material with the Shipping Doc /Customs declaration I just shared (continuously updated template). As far as I know the material arrived save.
It might also be worth consulting the website of carriers because customs regulations, taxes and tariffs do change regularly.

Greetings,
I had a recent destructive sampling request for leaf material to be sent to Beijing, China. The researchers did not have up to date information on regulations and necessary paperwork to ship material to China - I wondered if anyone has suggestions about proper protocols and regulations for shipping leaf material to that country.
Thank you,
~Mare
