[Nhcoll-l] bird salvage programs and HPAI in US

Hello,

>From the Bell Museum at the University of Minnesota here. We are still
allowing and encouraging salvaged birds but have put restrictions on all
waterfowl and shorebirds. We also work with numerous groups who are looking
for HPAI so they give us a heads up when they find it in local critters.

We did take in a fisher that was later confirmed to have had HPAI so we
disposed of it in accordance to our biohazard protocols. The rehab that
gave us the fisher is testing most things that come in with an unknown
cause of death. We are also working to partner with our Universities Vet
Med program to collect swabs from birds collected this year that the Vet
Med program will test for HPAI.

Hope that helps,
Sam Getty
