Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that Jordan Bass, a student at the University of Manitoba has been awarded the Gordon Dodds Prize for 2012 for his paper "A PIM Perspective: Leveraging Personal Information Management Research in the Archiving of Personal Digital Records." 
Jordan's paper was submitted by Prof. Tom Nesmith.

Instituted in 2011, the Dodds Prize recognizes superior research and writing on an archival topic by a student enrolled in a Master's level archival studies program at a Canadian university. The award honours Gordon Dodds (1941-2010) who was the first President of the ACA, and Archivaria's longest-serving General Editor. This is the first time the Dodds Prize has been awarded; nine submissions were received and reviewed by an adjudication committee consisting of the General Editor, Deirdre Bryden (ACA Secretary Treasurer), and two members appointed by the General Editor: Carolyn Heald (York University) and Tom Belton (University of Western Ontario).

The paper will be published in the Spring 2013 issue of Archivaria, and the award will be formally presented at the ACA conference in Winnipeg next June. The citation on the award certificate (which incorporates the comments of the adjudication committee) will read:
"This well-written bibliographic essay on personal digital records draws upon the computer science literature to offer new insights gained by studying human behavior, rather than traditional archival concepts of "recordness" or "function," and presents research relevant to archives that many may not be aware of."
