Thanks David,

(1) Yes, it is the horizontal left/right size that I would like to be able
to increase. It is too small for many of my queries.

(2) Yes, I currently use Ctrl+W to close the tabs. However, there are often
times when have my mouse (well, Wacom tablet pen) in my hand and am doing
something in the UI, and would then like to quickly close a tab or several
tabs. In these cases, a little 'x' would be much quicker than having to put
down my Wacom pen and click Ctrl+W.
